Audience essay feedback and learner response

WWW: This is an impressive essay – well done! Over 700 words and you show an excellent grasp of the audience and industry debates we discussed in class. You cover the three industries in some detail and have clearly used your notes and the guidance provided. You’ve been very consistent from the very beginning of the year with your homework and this is a very positive way to end your first term in GCSE Media!                               EBI: Your biggest area to improve on in this essay is written English. If you copy and paste your essay into Microsoft Word and count the number of red and blue lines under words you’ll see that it is a fair way off GCSE standard. I appreciate writing on the blog isn’t as convenient as writing on Microsoft Word but you are missing quite a few capital letters, apostrophes and similar across the essay as a ...

Doctor Strange Analysis

Image
 1) In this poster you can see there is a man located in the middle of the poster connoting that he is the main protagonist. The cape he is wearing shows that he is some sort of superhero also shows that he is the main character. The lighting is very vibrant to show that the movie is  quite lively and most likely for entertainment. The facial expression expressed by the actor allows the audience to realise that the role the protagonist plays is very serious and important. His face is quite scruffy and his hair is messed up  which connotes that he has probably came from a fight. He is stepping outside of what seems to be a circle made of fire and entering a different area showing that the movie is supernatural and that he has a power to transport to different places by opening gates. The background has been all flipped and  turned around to show that a lot of events take place during the movie. The "Marvel studios" logo is placed to show that the company responsible...

Ownership and control

Ownership and control 1. The reason Facebook bought Instagram for $1bn in 2012 is so that Facebook could build multiple       products at the same time and also because Instagram was a rival to Facebook so they bought it to       neutralise that threat of being overtaken.       2. Benefits for media companies of vertical integration is that they get a chance to make money at          every stage of production. 3. Benefits for media companies of horizontal integration is that it allows companies to widen their        audience and find out ways to make more money. 4. A subsidiary is a smaller company that is  controlled by a larger company. 5. Warner bros ,  Pixar , Funimation 6. Marvel Entertainment , Viceland , Vice (10%) , Hulu (30%), ESPN(80%), ABC Entertainement,          ABC News & Radio, Dreamworks II , Luca...

Industry and audience power essay

"The internet has given the audience much more power than ever before." I highly agree with the statement " The internet has given the audience much more power than ever before." I agree with that statement because of 3 main industries : Music industry, Film + TV Industry, News. Nowadays the consumer has an extraordinary amount of power because by using the internet , they can spread around stuff and also without people knowing who the person actually is. Ever since the rise of the internet , the music industry has  blown up tremendously , many artists have became popular threw expressing their talent online. Nowadays, everyone has the chance to become famous through Youtube. Also now you can stream you favourite songs on apps, such as Spotify, and also acquire digital downloads of them .These aspects are great and because of them life has become alot easier for the audience. The main reasons are:It is easy to access ; its cheaper ; its global and you can ...

Audience Effects Theory

BLUE PLANET II 1) Passive audience - The information from the media that has the same effect on everyone 2) Active audience - The information from the media that makes people interact with and  make              choices regardless the media they consume 3) Hypodermic needle theory - The audience takes in the intended message from the producer                  without disagreeing with anything. 4 )       INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE      Blue planet - This fits information/surveillance because from watching the TV show you learn             new information and also their is close surveillance of the creatures of the sea.       IDENTITY:        Ball in the family - This fits identity because your lifestyle could be as devoted basketball also             ...

Reception Theory

Image
RECEPTION THEORY 1. Preferred reading of media text is the message that the producer wants to portray to the audience. 2. Oppositional reading is when the audience ignore the meaning the producer is trying to give and          instead using their beliefs and values come up with another meaning. 3. The audience will respond to the teenage character in this film in a negative way. This is because        in the trailer the teenagers are presented in a negative way connoting their aggressive and                    malicious  attitude. 4. A younger audience would reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer        because the trailer is suggesting that  "all" young people are troublesome and aggressive, which is      false. The soft ,  kind young people would feel offended by this therefore changin...

October assessment learner response

MARK :17/25      GRADE:5 WWW -    This is a great start to Media and demonstrates you have learned a lot in the first half-                          term! You pick out conventions and the effects on audiences particularly well. EBI      -    Revise key terminology (e.g. Q1 - denote !) Also, medium close-up is acceptable for Q8                        but you then describe a medium shot. Make sure you get this right.                 -     For Q9 (8 mark) you need at least two extended paragraphs to reach the top level. Use                           specific examples from media products. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

Camerawork and Editing final blog tasks

Image
Medium Close-Up Shot A 'Medium Close-Up' is used effectively to show the facial expressions of the police men .It also shows the body language of the officers which conveys their shocked emotion. In the shot , the clothing is visible to show the futuristic time the clip is set in and also how advanced everything became. The use of the 1 man  in front  of the rest shows his superiority of the others. Establishing Shot A 'Establishing Shot' is used to show the setting of where the action is going to take place. By viewing the shot, you are able to see it in what looks to be a dark alley way. This shot is effective because it shows the time/year the clip is set in, which is in the future. Close-Up Shot A 'Close-Up Shot' mainly has the face covering most of the screen, this is extremely effective as it emphasises the protagonists emotion/facial expression. In the picture, you can tell that the protagonist feels worried by his eyebrow...

Image
Camera Shots/Angles: This is a Over-the-shoulder shot and is shows that the bully and victim are in the middle of a conversation. It also creates suspense as the bully is staring right at the victim. This is a full shot from a low angle. In this picture you can see the superiority of the bully as he is standing tall and staring down at the victim. You can also see the vulnerability of the victim as he looking down towards the ground with his legs crossed. This is a medium shot ,it shows visibly shows the facial expression of the bully and victim. Mise-en-scene Stranger Things analysis

Stranger Things | The First 8 Minutes - Series Opener [HD] | Netflix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKtq-bZgS8I Costume The clothes worn by the actors are quite modern , clothes that people would wear nowdays. This suggests the age of actors connoting how young they are. The white costume worn by the person at the beginning suggest that he could be like a scientist . Setting At the beginning the clip is set in what seems to be a long hallway with nothing much on the walls. In the middle ,the setting changes to house's basement. The basement was dark as there was only 1 lamp used as a source of light. It was quite stuffy inside the basement as there was a lot of things scattered everywhere therefore causing it hard for the children to find the missing toy. Lighting In the opening scene , there are    fluorescent , flic kering light  which tell the reader that this is a science fiction show.In the basement very little lighting was used to ...

Blog feedback and Learner Response

WWW: Your blog reflects the excellent start you’ve made in Media – well done! I’m impressed that you’re writing in some depth from the very first blog task this year – that’s a brilliant sign and suggests you’ve got the right attitude and should definitely be aiming for those top grades. I’m particularly impressed with the Skyscraper film poster analysis – the fact you’re already using media language such as ‘sans-serif’ font is an extremely good sign (I imagine you’ve been speaking to other Media students to help you here but that’s not a bad thing!) Along similar lines, your points on representation in the Skyscraper poster are accurate with regards to masculinity in action films and this is absolutely brilliant in the first few weeks of Media! EBI: One key aspect to work on – written English. You need to make sure the basics are right in every blogpost and you are using capital letters correctly. Similarly, for the text accompanying the fruit bowl do you mean ‘palette’...

Denotation and Connotation

Image
Denotation In this picture you are able to view Spider man and a what it appears to be another Spider man but the costume is fully black. Also it looks like they are attached onto a skyscraper. Connotation The dark version of Spider man suggests that during the movie he had done a bad deed causing him to become evil. The skyscraper shows spider man's liking to high places. The stance and stare he is giving suggests the movie is going to be serious and weighty. Analysis The dark version of Spider man makes the audience curious by making them wonder if it is still the black Spider man is Peter Parker or a different character in the movie making them want to watch the movie more. The fact he sees a darker version of himself in the mirror shows that he could have done something he regrets therefore he could be trying to repay for sins by wearing a costume that shows his evil side.

WaterAid Advert Analysis

Image
Denotation In this picture you can see a young boy wearing a dark blue jumper. In this picture you can also see a wall that's breaking apart. Connotations The dark blue jumper that that looks really worn out successfully connotes the lack of water the boy has. The wooden chair the boy is sitting on suggests the poor background he comes from. The colour of wall shows how he possibly lives in a desert area. The houses in the background reveals the poor conditions the boy lives in due to his lack in wealth. Analysis The facial expression that is expressed by the young boy makes the audience feel sympathetic towards the boy as he is giving a frown to show his sadness. The use of the inadequate blue jumper makes the audience feel guilt as they know they could prevent children from living lives like this if they gave some of the money they earned over to the charities that take care of them. The audience feels pity towards the boy as its clearly reveals the type of atmosphe...

VIBRANT PALETTE I have chosen a vibrant colour palette. The effect I was trying to portray was to use really bright colours to make a positive atmosphere .

Skyscraper(2018) Film Poster Analysis

Image
Language The film poster utilises sans-serif font to communicate to the audience that this is a modern film .There are multiple colour schemes however a predominant colour scheme are black, red and grey. These colours are typically used to suggest nearby danger which is also implied through Dwayne Johnson's facial expression ; in which he seems nervous yet brave. Industries The film was produced by Legendary Pictures then distributed by Universal Pictures. Legendary Pictures is rarely talked about production company however they have made many popular franchises like the Jurassic Park trilogy and for publishing vast amounts of DC movies.  Audience The target audience for Skyscraper would be mature teenagers and above due to the action and thrill which the audience is able to see from the poster . Representation The poster shows a muscular man as he struggles to keep a grip of the skyscraper .This is very common in action movies as males are predominately th...
