Industry and audience power essay

"The internet has given the audience much more power than ever before."

I highly agree with the statement " The internet has given the audience much more power than ever before." I agree with that statement because of 3 main industries : Music industry, Film + TV Industry, News. Nowadays the consumer has an extraordinary amount of power because by using the internet , they can spread around stuff and also without people knowing who the person actually is.

Ever since the rise of the internet , the music industry has  blown up tremendously , many artists have became popular threw expressing their talent online. Nowadays, everyone has the chance to become famous through Youtube. Also now you can stream you favourite songs on apps, such as Spotify, and also acquire digital downloads of them .These aspects are great and because of them life has become alot easier for the audience. The main reasons are:It is easy to access ; its cheaper ; its global and you can also connect with specific artists of your liking. You can access these songs on many platforms such as IOS , Andriod and Linux.  However there are also negatives to this, some people illegally download the songs which then result in artists not being able to make money .This could effect the artists by making them bankrupt , not being able to make any more money .

Another reason I agree with the statement is because of the Film + TV Industry. Many things have changed now that we're in 2018, such as before we had to use  Disc's to watch films or had to wait a whole week to watch our favourite TV show, but now you can just simply watch it on mobile devices. This is effective because now people can also download the films and watch it whenever they desire ,also to  add onto that , they can(on demand ) binge watch any TV show .Some positives to the film + TV industry is that there is a lot more content. Millions of people upload stuff allowing audiences to have a whole variety of different things to watch.Another benefit is that audience's can watch content all around the world. Before viewers were restricted to only being able to watch content from their country but now they can view content from different people in different place in the world. The prices have also decreased making all content either cheaper or free. Although the audience can watch films through the internet , it effects film studios because it is difficult to make money. This is negative for children and also adults because by binge watching they are getting distracted of everything around them making them focus on one specific thing. Especially for younger adults, it can get in the way of studies and school. Also , nowadays a lot of content is old or repeats and there are lots of sequels or similar films which aren't original or creative .

Since the rise of the news industry , the major changes are :citizen journalism , no one will pay for news, newspaper sales have fallen ,viral news and "clickbait".News can be filmed from any person by just taking out their phones or any device with a camera and recording it and also no one will pay for for news because after the citizen's share the news they tend to put it on social media therefore people don't need to buy the news.Positives about this are that it is very quick to access, before you would n receive  news the day after the incident occurred but now you get access to it on the day through the internet. Also, to add to that, you can watch news lives by people live streaming events of social media. However there are problems with the news industry, you don't know who to trust. This is because someone people fake news.Another problem is that newspaper companies don't make as much as they used to anymore due to people using the internet for news.

In Conclusion, the audience overall has been made more powerful from the internet because their voice can be heard from millions of other people browsing the internet casually. Therefore, it is more likely that the audience can receive fame like many social media idols from youtube.
