1) How have our music listening habits changed since 1960?

Before Radio had to be consumed at the time of broadcast ( i.e live only) however now it can be consumed in a variety of way .i.e online , streamed , downloaded , digital , traditional radio frequency : much more choices.

2) When did Apple Beats 1 Radio Launch and what is it?

It was launched in 2015 as a free live streaming global 'always on ' radio station. Beats 1 demonstrates emerging , future developments in the media and provides an opportunity to study issues linked to ownership , globalisation and convergence.

3)What is the difference between Beats 1 Radio , iTunes and Apple Music?

On iTunes you need to buy songs which you download and keep forever however Apple Music is a subscription-based streaming service so you get access to a catalogue of songs through a monthly subscription fee.

4)Why was Apple so keen to enter the online music world and compete with Spotify , Deezer and Amazon music ( and others)?

It was way of keeping Apple customers away from their competition .

5) Why did Apple choose the three selected DJs for launch?
Because they all represented different music themes.

6)How does the use of DJs differ from Spotify, Amazon Music and other streaming services?

Beats 1 sells itself on the quality of DJs and in this it is different to Spotify , Deezer and Amazon Music as it allows the audience to develop Personal Relationship ( Blumer and Katz) with the DJs.

7)How does the content of Julia Adenuga show differ from Radio 1 ?

She is an expert on grime music.

8)Why does Beats 1 radio give Apple the power to make or break new artists ? Is this a good thing or bad thing for the music industry.

It is arguably both negative and positive because it could make new artists of different genres which could attract in a different audience group but also by breaking new artists it sets a bad image on them which might effect them mentally.

9)Read the BBC feature on the launch of Apple Beats 1 Radio . Did the industry experts think it would be success?Why?

People did believe that the radio station would be successful however they believed that Beats 1 was not a traditional radio station but it also referred to as an 'ecosystem for music'.

10)Give arguement for and against the idea that Beats 1 will be a threat to traditional media industries (e.g. radio stations , record shops,online music retailers etc.
For:

  • It is very popular
  • It will attract a lot of different audiences due to different types of DJs
Against :

  • It is easier to use downloaded songs than those from Radio stations.

1)Who is the target audience for Beats 1 and Juila Adenuage in particular? Refer to demographics and pschographics.

The target audience is most likely to be teenagers and young adults as they are more likely to enjoy grime music than other demographic ages.

2) Why do people listen to Beats 1 ? Which aspects of Blumer and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory relate to  Beats 1 and its audience?
Personal Relationships with the audience.

3) Can the audience actively interact with the Apple Beats 1 Radio or are they passive when listening? How? Give examples.#
They can actively interact with the Apple Beats 1 Radio .

4) Is Apple Beats 1 aimed at a mass or niche audience? How does this differ to BBC radio 1 ?

Apple Beats 1 is aimed at a niche audience as it focuses only on music .
5) Do you think Apple Beats 1 will be popular with young audiences or are streaming services the future of audio-based media?

I think it will be popular because you are able to watch Apple Beats 1 like a video which is more preferred from a younger audience.
