Fortnite has become extremely popular because of the idea of reaching a goal, trying to get a victory royale is one of the main goals of fortnite which everyone strives towards. Also now that there are competitions where money can be earned, many twitch and Youtubers have decided to make a living out of playing fortnite. I played it a bit, especially as nieces and nephews asked me to play with them. I found the lack of any form of profession a bit lacking but the thing I found difficult is the part that I regarded as most important seemed to let it down and that was the gunplay. I have a 2.0+ KD in Wildlands, Destiny 2, and Battlefield so I would regard myself as a reasonable FPS player, but I couldn't get on with Fortenite's gunplay. The guns felt deliberately inaccurate in a totally unpredictable way, the deciding factor on kills seemed to either being outnumbered, or shooting first, rather than weapon, accuracy etc.
It's a shame because I actually like the concept and even the base/fort building element.
I think the major reason for it's success seems to be that it's free and that they can all join a party chat and talk to each other as they play.
I disagree with this because the gunplay is a lot better than other games where it is first person to shoot wins only because of the building concept. By being able to build in the game you get more creativity to use it how you want : as protection , to get height ground advantage on an opponent or even to make structures.

i like the idea of more games like this - refined, simplified and less gory/gritty editions of popular formats - more suitable for a younger audience

I agree because first person shooters such as PUBG , Call of Duty have very graphic imagery whereas fortnite is more of a cartoon
